Savitribai Phule’s anniversary celebrated
New Delhi: The birth anniversary of India’s first woman teacher Savitribai Phule was celebrated under the auspices of Balijan-Bahujan Andolan at a function at ISI hall on Lodhi Road here on 3 January. Speakers at the function threw light on the pioneering contribution of Savitribai Phule to the field of women’s education. In her keynote address, Dalit writer Anita Bharati recalled the incessant struggle of Savitribai. Sukhwinder Singh referred to the rich corpus of poetry and literary pieces penned by Savitribai and demanded that it be rendered into Hindi. Led by Sunil Sardar of Satyashodhak Samaj, a group presented a song written by Sahir Ludhianwi on the theme of women empowerment. The function was also addressed by Pamela Sardar, former MP Aizaz Ali, former IPS officer Tara Singh, Amar Singh, Nalini Abraham and Dr. Swaminathan. The programme was organised by a team led by Sunil Sardar; Kanta Bhimrao was the moderator.
Rashtrapita Jotiba Phule Samajik Jranti Sansthan inaugurated
NAGPUR (Maharashtra): On 6 December, 2013, Rashtrapita Jotiba Phule Samajik Kranti Sansthan was inaugurated by Justice K. Chandu, retired judge of Madras High Court, at the 30th national convention of BAMCEF held on Yashkai DK Khaparde Memorial Trust premises. Justice Chandu was the chief guest at the inaugural function, while Dr Amrik Singh, professor, California State
University, Sacramento, and Anaimuthhu were also present. On this occasion, BD Borkar, chairman of the trust, announced the dedication of the trust to BAMCEF. He said that the trust and institute would work for the Moolniwasi Bahujans. It will also function as the headquarters for conducting and controlling the movement.
Utkal Yadav Mahasabha held in Cuttack
Cuttack (Odisha): Biju Janta Dal (BJD) supremo and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik attended the Yadav Mahasabha held at the Baliyatra Ground,Cuttack on 12 January. The Mahasabha was attended by nearly 20,000 Yadavs from across the state. Utkal Yadav Sangh President Ashribad Behera was also present on the occasion.
